History and Commitment to Nature

Welcome to Cal Bessó, an organic winery that blends family tradition with respect for the land. To understand who we are, let's go back in time and explore the history that gave rise to our winemaking passion.

This story begins thanks to the passionate dedication of Josep Castellví Prat, who, with loving hands, cared for thousands of cherry trees that offered the most exquisite cherries. This commitment to quality and nature laid the foundation for what would come next.

The Castellví Figuerola family, composed of Raimon and Carmen, decides to give life to the Bodega del Encastell in Porrera, DOQ Priorat, during the 1999 harvest. This decision marked the beginning of an exciting journey into the world of wines.

Expansion to D.O. Montsant and Collaboration with Jaume Vallès

With the determination to expand to D.O. Montsant, Raimón and Carmen partner with Jaume Vallès, owner of vineyards in Los Guiamets. Together, they embark on adapting the ancestral home to make wines, focusing on the 7 hectares of organic vineyards owned by Jaume Vallès.

As a tribute to the legacy of Josep Castellví Prat, Cal Bessó produces two red wines: Lo Cirerer and La Prunera, named in honor of the trees that filled Josep's days. The white wine Coret carries the tenderness of Raimon and Carmen's daughters, who called their mother little heart. The second white wine pays homage to Elvira, Raimon's mother.

Each bottle tells a story of love for the land and a passionate commitment to organic winemaking. Discover the authenticity of our wines, where tradition and nature merge in every sip. Cheers!
